Intensive Therapy

Intensive Couples Therapy

Want to make progress more quickly? Sometimes weekly couples therapy isn’t enough.

When couples feel stuck in recurring conflict, are facing a crisis such as a betrayal, or are simply wanting to reconnect more quickly, intensive therapy offers a focused and transformative alternative to traditional sessions.

What is Intensive Therapy?

Intensive couples therapy condenses weeks of work into a shorter period of time. Rather than meeting for one short session each week, we meet for extended sessions- typically over one or a few days. This allows us to focus on the work and go deeper without interruptions.

This format creates space for meaningful breakthroughs, helping you to move past surface-level conversations and into real change.

Research shows that front-loading therapy results in better maintenance of progress long-term. It also shows lower drop-out rates because clients notice changes faster.

Who is This For?

Intensives are ideal for couples who:

  • Feel stuck in ongoing patterns or disconnection
  • Are navigating a significant challenge, crisis, or decision
  • Want to rebuild trust after a rupture, such as an affair
  • Have limited time due to busy schedules
  • Prefer a more immersive and results-oriented experience
  • Want clarity around whether to stay in the relationship or not
  • Or who want to get to the couple work more quickly, perhaps just condensing the entire assessment phase into one intensive session

Intensives are NOT for couples who are struggling with:

  • Active addiction issues
  • Serious domestic violence issues
  • Active suicidal thoughts/intentions
  • Active secrets that are held from their partner
  • Other serious safety concerns

What to Expect

Your intensive experience is structured, supportive, and tailored to your relationship.

We begin with a comprehensive assessment, which would include the Gottman Connect questionnaire to better understand your relational strengths and growth areas.

During the intensive, we will:

  • Identify and de-escalate conflict patterns
  • Improve emotional regulation
  • Strengthen communication and emotional connection
  • Process underlying hurts and unmet needs
  • Build practical tools you can continue using at home
  • Rebuild a solid friendship foundation
  • Overcome roadblocks in progress
  • Or a 5-hour Intensive can be used to get through the Assessment Phase of couples work in one day instead of spanning over 3-4 weeks

The aim is to leave with a clearer understanding of yourself and each other, with a concrete path moving forward.

Format Options

We offer flexible formats to meet your needs:

  • Half-day intensives (3–4 hours)
  • Full-day intensives (5–7 hours)
  • Multi-day intensives for deeper work

Sessions can be held virtually or in-person in Mississauga or Sarnia.

Why Choose an Intensive?

Couples often find that intensives:

  • Accelerate progress compared to weekly therapy
  • Reduce the “start-stop” feeling of traditional sessions
  • Allow both partners to stay fully engaged in the process
  • Create momentum and hope in a shorter time frame
  • Provides more time to process emotions deeply, uncover core issues, and build skills that strengthen the relationship
  • Address urgent or more complex issues more efficiently

Is This Right for You?

If you’re feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or ready for meaningful change, an intensive may be the right next step.

Intensives are private, customized, and led by experienced clinicians.
