Are you carrying hurts?
It can be difficult to carry hurts on your own, especially in a relationship. As couples yearn to be seen, heard and understood by each other, they often need the space to work through issues that are important to them. I draw from an integrative approach to explore couples’ unique perspectives and to support their strengths as they build understanding and capacity in their journey. I offer a safe, intentional and collaborative space throughout the therapeutic process. I work alongside couples toward deeper insight, intimacy and connection.
Client Focus: I work with couples and believe relationships are a site of growth and transformation.
Issues: With couples, I can explore issues relating to conflict and communication, identity and attachment, stress and emotional regulation, trauma, betrayal and loss.
Types of therapy: I have certificates in Level One and Level Two Gottman Method Couples Therapy, and have also completed an externship in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy from the International Centre for Excellence in Emotionally Focused Therapy.
Experience:
I am a Registered Social Worker, Psychotherapist with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers. I earned a Combined Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Bachelor of Social Work, as well as a Master of Social Work degree from McMaster University. I have had the privilege of working across child welfare and adult protection and guardianship, supporting clients as they face issues such as trauma, abuse, substance use and family conflict. I have trained in narrative-based or talk therapies, therapeutic crisis intervention as well as specific approaches to support clients who have Alcohol Related Neurological Disorders and Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders.
More than just my work:
I find ease and meaning in stargazing, having spent part of my childhood in Nunavut, watching the Aurora Borealis. I also love hiking, trying new recipes and watching films with my husband.
